The Group Home Model Is Not a Blueprint

Here’s a view that’s still not universally popular in our sector. The group home model is something we inherited, not a blueprint for how it should be today.

For decades, supported accommodation has mostly meant fitting people into existing structures, with shared houses, rostered staff and routines built around the service rather than the person.

At Includa, UrHome supports people to create Individualised Living Arrangements (ILAs). These are flexible home and living supports designed around a person’s relationships, their connection to community and the stability that comes from a home that’s genuinely theirs.

The sector talks a lot about choice and control. Individualised living is what it looks like when you mean it.

We’d love to hear from others in the sector. What’s getting in the way of more people moving to individualised arrangements, and what would help?
