For many people accessing the NDIS, social and community participation funding plays an important role in staying connected and engaged. But with major NDIS reforms underway, there’s growing uncertainty around how this kind of support may be funded in the future.
We wanted to bring some real voices into this conversation. In a recent podcast episode, Dr Katie Butler, lecturer in human services at the University of Newcastle and an NDIS participant herself, joins Megan Spindler-Smith, acting CEO of People with Disability Australia, to share their thoughts on what these changes could mean.
This conversation matters. Participation in community isn’t an “extra”. For many people, it’s the difference between isolation and connection, between simply existing and truly living.
As changes continue to unfold, it’s more important than ever that people with disability are heard, and that their lived experience sits at the centre of conversations about what support, inclusion and independence really look like.
